While skips can handle an awful lot of waste there are some items that cannot be put in them. For instance Asbestos, Oil, Solvents and any corrosive liquid are quite obviously hazardous to both people and the environment and thus cannot be deposited in an open skip.
As well as hazardous materials, anything that could cause a health risk may not be placed in a skip, so no food waste or biological waste of any kind may be deposited. This does include droppings and pest carcasses as well as any kind of medical waste.
Florescent tubes, Televisions, paints and batteries also contain hazardous material that can cause health problems or injury when materials are processed for recycling. There are approved methods of dealing with them that must be followed strictly to avoid injury. Fridges and Freezers, even modern ones, also contain environmentally hazardous gases that must be removed by an approved agent before the Fridge can be disposed of.
Plasterboard may not be placed in a skip in large quantities. While the material itself is not hazardous the processing for material reclamation can cause it to powder and create a health risk for workers in the recycling facility.
Some items cannot be placed in a skip because of their weight and inability to be effectively processed. For this reason large tree trunks and heavy aggregate (big rocks and chunks of concrete) must not be placed in any skip, and smaller stones must not be put in larger skips in great quantities.
If you are unsure of the kinds of material may be placed in your skip then please do contact the friendly staff at Skip Hire UK. We are dedicated to making sure that you can hire exactly the skip you need at the cheapest rate possible.
