Weird and wonderful items found in skip hire
Being a nationwide provider of cost effective skips and rubbish clearance, we can cover skip hire in Liverpool and across the whole of the UK. With such an extensive coverage and wide range of skip sizes, we are always finding weird and wonderful items in our skips you are booking online. Sometimes we are happy to collect those unique items, other times they’re just a bit silly.
When we put together our guidelines for what can/can’t go in our skips, we thought, what are the weirdest things ever to be found in a skip?
Well after some investigating, here’s some of our favourites:
1) A caravan
That’s right, an actual caravan was found in a skip. As large as our 12-yard skips are, they’re not cut out for a caravan! Although it’s a great effort getting the caravan into the skip, we must stress how harmful this can be for the surrounding area
A caravan is not only far too large for a skip in cubic yards, it is also made up of hazardous materials that can’t be disposed of in a regular skip hire service. So, think about your waste removal before chucking your caravan away!
2) A motorbike
Another bizarre item found in a skip, a fully functioning motorbike! A fully restored 1939 Vincent HRD Series-A Rapide motorcycle was found, a very
expensive model to be throwing away in a skip.
Not only is it a massive waste of money, it’s also forbidden to load a skip with most of the materials that make up this bike. Items like tyres that make up the bike cannot be loaded into any skip and require specialist attention to get rid of to make sure its as environmentally friendly as possible.
Not the most popular of items to throw away but there have still been cases of skips full of cash! Back in 2018, a local employee at a skip hire company found a bag full of m
oney adding up to £7,000. We’re not sure who would throw money away but if you are thinking about, don’t!
Another strange item found in skips over the years and one that won’t be accepted by any waste management company or transfer station. Many have attempted to load weapons in with their
waste over the years, either broken or still fully functioning.
5) Pictures of Tower Bridge?!
One of the UK’s most recognised landmarks, the Tower Bridge in London is a very popular tourist attraction to photograph. Speaking of photographs, very old ones of the Tower Bridge were found in a local skip hire company’s skip. In total, there were 50 old photographs found in the skip, all of the Tower Bridge being built!
With Tower Bridge being over 125 years old, these are some very rare and historic photos that do not belong in a skip!
Asbestos arrives in three main types: Chrysotile, amosite and crocidolite, otherwise known as white, brown and blue. Asbestos is an extremely dangerous substance, usually only found in buildings built before the year 2000 (before it was banned). There are still around 5000 workers killed by this material every year, which is why it doesn’t belong in a skip.
When it comes to disposal, asbestos requires specialist treatment and shouldn’t be anywhere near one of our skips.
If you need further help and advice on how to safely get rid of asbestos, please contact us today. Although SkipHire won’t remove Asbestos, our waste expertise can help.
We’re always eager to hear about weird and wonderful items found in skips. If you have found something bizarre in a skip, please get in touch and share it with us! Call us on 0845 241 3480 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
